Description
This auction is for one of the most sought after, rarest Bowie 45 7" single records. The Manish Boys single 'I Pity the fool" b/w "Take My Tip" on Parlophone R 5250 came out in March of 1965. The record is Bowie's second single and, of'course, he was still known as Davie Jones. He was 18 years old(by two months) when this record came out 42 years ago.
He had joined the group as a lead singer. The songs on this record are true R&B/Blues style recordings. The "A" side was penned by Deadric Malone a fictional name made up for one of the young blues writers/players of the day who hung out around the Houston, Tx. offices of Duke-Peacock. The label boss Don Robey bought many recordings of the day for $5 each. The song "I Pity the Fool" is a famous song first recorded by Bobby Blue Bland the great blues singer.
The "B" side on this record is written and credited to Davie Jones (Bowie). Bowie was not happy with the success of the Manish boys and his role with them so he never recorded with them again. Almost Immediately after this recording came out Bowie joined his new group, "The Lower Third". This time he would get recognition, the band was called "Davie Jones and the Lower Third".
This record and sleeve are both in Mint condition. Both have been kept in plastic made for 45 7" records while they were in my collection.
