Description
Most UK magazine companies were quick to exploit Beatlemania, and City Magazines were no exception. As well as heavy coverage in their title Boyfriend and its Merseybeat-inspired spin-off Big Beat, they produced a number of specials, or 'extras', including the Beatles in Sweden, the Beatles in Paris, etc.
They also produced this fold-out poster for sale in newsagents. Consisting of 10 panels measuring 12 x 10 inches each, it folds out to 60 x 20 inches (152 x 51 cm approx), claiming to be 'The Biggest Pop Wall Panel in the World'.
The illustrated side features five large colour photos of the Beatles, four of them taken during the band's late October 1963 Swedish trip, one of them from earlier in the year, which probably dates publication to November or December 1963. The heads of other popstars of the day, including the Rolling Stones, are dotted around the borders.
The other side is blank, except for the two panels which would have been on display in the newsagents, featuring the price (2 shillings and 6 pence) and detailed information about what can be found inside.
