Description

Accompanied by the Sousa Band, cornet soloist Walter B. Rogers

plays an incredible selection entitled "Lulle Waltz" on a Victor

Monarch 2439.

This was recorded on August 26, 1903.

Cornet legend Herbert L. Clarke claimed that his life-long friend Walter

B. Rogers was the greatest cornet technician that he ever heard, and

he marveled at Rogers' lightning-fast tongue and execution.

This 111 year-old disc will show you why Clarke showered such praise

on Rogers.

The record description itself needs some extra details. Overall, I

would visually call it V to V+ not very nice. Play-wise, the first

half-inch of grooves is quite scratchy, but it soon begins to clean up,

and about a third of the way through (when Rogers begins to show

his stuff) it plays a solid V+.

There is a very faint 1" edge crack, but the record plays through with

no skips or hangs.
