The first ever Ambient album, in its original UK pressing, as invented on this very record by Brian Eno (of Roxy Music and a chequered solo career), who explains on the back cover how he happened across the concept by accident.
Ambient music would then take over (a certain portion of) the world.
(This was the same year Lou Reed invented the whole industrial/noise genre with Metal Machine Music, another atypical and unexpected album by a "rock person.")
The US edition of Discreet Music came out a little later, 1976 or 1977 per the Discogs listing, but this is the original pressing from the UK with the correct matrix numbers and grey labels.
Side 2 by the way is a set of Eno variations on Pachelbel's Canon, which hadn't yet become the staple of Hollywood movies or weddings that it became shortly after. The huge popularity of the piece can't be attributed to this (O)bscure ambient album, but way more probably to its use in the movie Ordinary People (1980). Eno processes and ambient-izes the by treating it as what it already almost is, pure repetition and stasis.
Anyhow, a cool artifact.
As for the condition, I'll copypaste this from the Condition field, which is easy to overlook sometimes: NM- on Side 2 (the Pachelbel), VG+ on Side 1 (Discreet Music). The difficulty in grading this is that Side 1 is deliberately cut at a very low level, and intended to be heard that way. If you turn it up to normal levels, you increase the light surface noise. If played as intended, I'd say the condition is VG++.
