EVERYBODY WANTS TO GO TO HEAVEN (But nobody wants to die) Brother Claude is known as one of the top spiritual singers in this country. He was formerly with King Records and had one album and several single records on King. On this album you will hear Brother Claude at his best. He voices the same spirit in "Just A Closer Walk With Thee," as he does in the soul stirring "Standing In The Need Of Prayer." Brother Claude is a dedicated man and has devoted his life to God. As you listen to this album, you can hear the love and devotion that Brother Claude has in his heart. Brother Claude Ely was born in Pennington Gap, Virginia, July 21, 1922. As a young man, he worked in the coal mines around Harlan County, Kentucky. During World War II, while serving with the U.S. Army, he took a fifteen day furlough and came all the way from Alaska to marry his sweetheart, Rosie. They were wed, April 3, 1945. After his discharge in 1945, he went to work again in the coal mines in Virginia and western Kentucky. In 1949, he gave up his job in the mine at Mary Helen, Kentucky, and devoted his time entirely to the ministry. He has traveled extensively around the country holding revivals and singing. He was first brought to the attention of gospel music lovers thru a song he wrote "There Ain't No Grave Gonna Hold My Body Down," which was recorded from a live church program Brother Claude was doing in Whitesburg, Kentucky. The record was released by King and was an im- mediate success. Incidentally, most of the songs on this album are Brother Claude's own compositions. He has appeared and worked on many radio stations including WCPM, Cumberland, Kentucky; WHLN, Harlan, Kentucky;WTCW, Whitesburg, Ken- tucky; WKIC, Hazard, Kentucky; WPFB, Middletown, Ohio; WNVA, Norton, Virginia; WCLU, Covington, Kentucky; and many others. He has done pas- torial work in Sneedville, Tennessee; Cumberland, Kentucky, Grundy, Vir- ginia; and is now pastor of the Charity Tabernacle, 1058 Grand Ave. , Newport, Kentucky. In his spare time Brother Claude likes to coon hunt and fish. Brother Claude presently makes his home in Florence, Kentucky, with his wife and four children. Rev.
