Description
Original 1982 U.S. promotional pressing of Bruce Springsteen’s haunting acoustic masterpiece Nebraska on Columbia Records (catalog # TC 38358). This is a rare promo copy, as noted by the gold “FOR PROMOTION ONLY” stamp on the back barcode. Includes the original printed inner sleeve with lyrics and a photo of Springsteen.
🎧 Vinyl Condition: EXCELLENT
• Ultrasonically cleaned and play-tested — plays beautifully with only the inherent tape hiss present from the original 4-track recording. No skips, warps, or major visual flaws.
Note: Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska is known for having some surface noise—even on new or clean pressings—and this is largely due to how the album was recorded.
Here’s why:
• Lo-fi origin: The entire album was recorded by Springsteen at home on a 4-track cassette recorder (a Teac Tascam 144).
• Cassette master: The recordings were initially demos, but the raw and haunting quality captured on tape was so compelling that they became the final album. A proper studio version was recorded with the E Street Band but never released.
• Analog limitations: Because the final master was taken from a cassette tape, there’s an inherent tape hiss and lo-fi graininess baked into the mix, giving the album a naturally “noisy” quality—even on CD or digital formats.
What this means for vinyl:
• Even a Near Mint (NM) vinyl copy of Nebraska may exhibit light surface noise—especially on quieter tracks—because it faithfully reproduces the original tape’s sound texture.
• Don’t confuse tape hiss with vinyl wear.
