Description

An original 1st press of RIVER on UK CBS from 1980. Matrix A3/B3-C4/D3 - 1st cut. This copy would have been handed out to record company execs at the time of release. Worth insisting on these early copies as the overall standard of manufacture is just that bit higher than copies only a couple of months later. The audio on these early copies is really impressive. The vinyl comes housed in a Shorewood packaging outer cover. Two things to note - firstly this copy has the promo 'not for sale' stamped in gold on the rear. Secondly a lot of these 1st issues have a dirty great white sticker on the front - ruining the overall aesthetic [But not here!]. Also worth noting that these early copies have smarter inner sleeves than later copies. The early copies are made of slightly thicker paper and have a nice lip at the opening. We also have two copies of the inner booklet. Not sure if there was supposed to be two - but hey the more the better! There's also a promo sheet of the other LPs available from the Springsteen catalogue in 1980. So, we're 101% complete and 100% genuine. We will ship with poly-lined inner sleeves for maximum protection.
Vinyl (Ex+) In absolutely super condition - and will not be bettered! Shiny surfaces with barely any signs of use - even the spindle holes have waste wax present. This baby has clearly seen only the lightest use - if any at all. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an EXCELLENT+ level CONSISTENTLY with just a couple of slight deviations. Don't risk bagging an average copy - if you love this LP get yourself THE BEST money can offer. I can assure you there's a lot of variation out there! But on a copy like this - you are going to hear each and every track in absolutely top level clarity. Intros and inbetweens are absolutely totally quiet! Who says 1980's vinyl was crud! The audio is absolutely top level right from the get go. Total clarity, excellent energy, and barely a hint of background. Even into the quietest moments - really no sign of background. Song after song delivered with aplomb and total conviction. All I could detect that was even vaguely an issue was a couple of ticks in the intro to 'Independence Day' and a couple more in the final seconds of 'Point Blank'. Very minor - and of little consequence. A few crackles in the intro to 'Stolen Car' was all I could detect across four sides. But this is a particularly fussy track - the audio is still much better than what typically surfaces. Best copy I've ever witnessed. So, don't less this one pass you by... they do not all sound like this. FINAL UPGRADE.
Cover (Ex/Ex+) In excellent condition and has clearly been carefully looked after down the years. A clean front and rear which are flat and uncreased. Like I said above - no sign of that stupid sticker! Edge wear is pretty much non-existent and the openings are still nice and sharp. The spine is in fantastic condition. It remains perfectly square with all text perfectly legible [just a couple of minuscule amounts of wear]. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. 
Inners (Ex/Ex+) Pretty much perfect. No splits.
Lyric booklets [X2] (Ex) Excellent order - hardly been touched.
Promo Sheet (Ex+) Like it was printed yesterday.
