This handsome and very rare LP from Aricord (A-1847, German pressing, black label, stereo) features the remarkable pianist Leonid Brumberg (1925-2010), a pupil of Heinrich Neuhaus, Nikolai Myaskovksy, and Dimitri Shostakovich. Brumberg commanded an enormous repertoire (over 30 concertos and 100 solo programs, including the 32 Beethoven Sonatas). He later taught at the Vienna Conservatory, among other institutions.
Brumberg made several recordings for Aricord during the late 1980s and early 1990s, though they are difficult to locate. The present recital was engineered by Josef Kamykowski.

Robert Schumann: Fantasy in C Major Op. 17
Sergei Rachmaninoff: 2 Preludes
Prelude No. 7 in C minor Op. 23
Prelude No. 5 in G minor Op. 23
Sergei Prokofiev: Toccata in D minor Op. 11
This is exalted playing by any measure and all those who treasure the art of the piano will find much to admire here. The sound is first rate.
The reverse side of the jacket carries liner notes (uncredited) in both German and English. The striking cover photo of Brumberg is similarly uncredited.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There edgewear, more so at corners, as well as creasing, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, owners' markings or other defects, and the whole remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – a very good collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Though the surfaces are not perfectly silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT) this is a fine copy and playback is superb. If you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a NM collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
