Original US pressing of Buddy Holly's Self-titled solo LP on the Coral label. First pressing with maroon labels.
Grading:
Sleeve: VG Solid, light shelf-wear, sticker tear, no splits, legible spine
Vinyl: VG- Decent player, but has numerous light paper scuffs which cause background crackles throughout
Notes:
Released only 4 months after the debut album by Buddy Holly's band The Crickets, Buddy Holly's first "solo" album came out on February 20, 1958 on the Coral label. It should be noted that while the LP is credited to Buddy Holly, all songs are actually performed by The Crickets. In 1957 producer Norman Petty arranged for the Crickets' recordings to be marketed under two separate names: The solo vocals were released as being by Buddy Holly, and the songs with dubbed backing vocals were issued as being by the Crickets. Petty reasoned correctly that disc jockeys might be reluctant to program a single artist too heavily but would play records by two seemingly different groups. Some disc jockeys referred to the band as "Buddy Holly and the Crickets", but record labels never used this wording until after Holly's death.
This LP represents one of only two albums of original material released by Buddy Holly while he was alive ("That'll Be The Day" was a compilation of early unreleased studio material recorded for Decca in 1956).
