I'm having a clearout of some of my vinyl. Please keep an eye out as I'll be listing some very nice records all with NO RESERVE
This is a REALLY rare item, I’ve never seen another EXACTLY like this one.
Pressed in the USA in 1961 on Decca DL 8707 it has a secondary catalogue number of MG 6148/9. The sleeve is the regular USA ’61 version. The oddity is the pressing - this has the rainbow strip labels as used on the’61 pressing but instead of ‘DECCA’ it has ‘LIFE’ printed to the left of them. It’s been suggested that these were possibly pressed for release in export markets? A real oddity.
This particular records was retailed in the U.K. and the hand written price on the back cover of 19/6 (19 shillings and sixpence) would be consistent with 60’s pricing. This was previously owned by Don Murfitt, who was Adam Ant’s manager in the early 80’s, and I bought it from his widow around 10 years ago.
Sleeve CONDITION: This has been stored in a thin polythene sleeve for most (if not all) of it’s life. Very little discolouration, small (approx 2”/5cm) split along the bottom, no heavy damage. Small writing on back cover (price and strore reference number?). Please see pictures, it’s in a very presentable shape. Overall VG+ to EX.
Record CONDITION: This has been played a fair amount of times and there are alot of small hairline scratches, but NOTHING heavy. Plays really well with no major faults. The labels are clean (see photos) but there are some spider marks around the centre hole. Overall VG – VG+
The matrices are hand etched and read MG-6148/MG-6149.
Although I’m selling this with a low No Reserve starting price, and I’m sure that it will be leaving me soon, to satisfy my own curiousity I would be grateful to hear from anybody who knows anymore about this particular variation of this pressing.
