Description
I was general manager of Takoma Records when Bukowski was signed to re-release a reading he gave in San Francisco from 9/14/73, that was produced by City LIghts Bookstore in San Francisco. As part of the promotion for the release, we paid Bukowski to do one last reading - which happened at the Sweetwater in Redondo Beach. That reading was released as Hostage on vinyl and CD, and a video of the reading was released on DVD as The Last Straw (a reference to that reading being the very last one Bukowski gave, even though he lived and wrote for another 14 years. He hated doing the readings, as he would get very drunk and fight with the audience. But, he needed new tires for his VW, so agreed to do that last reading. This is a promo copy that was in my basement for the last 39 years and is in mint condition, but as a promo copy has a cut corner.
