The Jamaican roots reggae singer Burning Spear released his album Hail H.I.M. in 1980. His music has undergone a continuous evolution, resulting in a phenomenal album. He’s mixing various genres in his roots sounds. Winston Rodney, aka “Burning Spear”, is in his element when he’s playing with Bob Marley’s backing band The Wailers. It’s breath-taking brilliance with the stunning performances of every band members and Burning Spear himself. Some songs feel almost proggy, while others are stripped down to the minimalistic core themes. The deeper meanings of his lyrics can be felt in the way he brings them to the listener. An epical and essential album in reggae’s history.
