Description
Cordele, Georgia's native son BUSTER BROWN's first LP, cut for Bobby Robinson's FIRE Records label in 1961. Includes Buster's only #1 R&B charting hit, "Fannie Mae" ... plus eleven other tracks that are in the same league. Brown plays harmonica, and his backup band is Deep South roadhouse style. RARE wax!
Fire Records monaural LP, catalog #LO-101 or FLP-102. The label says 101, the sleeve says 102. In either case, this is the original release from 1961.
We spot-play all used LPs on a high-end Technics turntable fitted with a Shure M95ED cartridge, tracking at 1.5 grams. In the case of this disk, we had to kick the tracking up to 2.0 grams.
Disk condition: Good to Good Plus. This disk has been played a lot, probably was a party record. We noted no skips and no deep scratches, but there is constant surface noise of the "schhhhh" variety, plus occasional random small pops and clicks. The surface shows a lot of scuff marks, a particularly ugly one on side two (see the last listing photo). But these do not cause any skips and are mostly INaudible. The record has been cleaned thoroughly, but it would benefit from steam cleaning, or with Walker's Prelude System, if you have access to those. The labels are pretty clean, and there's no writing on them.
Sleeve condition: Good Minus. All three closed sides were taped once, and that tape yellowed and split. New clear packing tape was applied to the three sides in the recent past. The sleeve is age-yellowed, and the bottom right corner is slightly creased. A new white inner sleeve has been supplied by the seller.
