Description
This is a rare, original 1978 pressing from the EPI label. These were produced in very small quantities and later became highly rare and sought-after. Amazingly, this record is in near mint condition -- not a single flaw on the vinyl or the jacket. I have owned this record for many years and it still looks like it was made yesterday. I have included both a poly-lined inner sleeve to protect the vinyl and the original paper sleeve. Morris never gained the widespread following of Coltrane or Ayler, but records by his group Unity have earned an extremely impressive (and well deserved) reputation among die-hard fans of free jazz, the avant garde, and fusion over the years. Unity has consistently featured gifted soloists who are real musicians' musicians. The personnel on this album is: Byron Morris, Vincent McEwan, Jay Clayton, Gene Adler, Tyronne Walker, Frank Clayton, Milton Suggs, Abu Sharif, and a voice choir.
The tracks are 1. ERAA 2. Suite for Rahsaan, Mingus, and Lester Young 3. Panamanian Aire 4. Sun Shower 5. Eyewitness News Bluze 6. Like a Galaxy of Stars. The relationship between Unity's sound and the musical inspirations of Rahsaan Roland Kirk are discussed in the liner notes on the back cover, including a short liner note by Rahsaan's wife.
We have other rare vinyl currently listed on eBay with no reserves (including another very rare Byron Morris album) and will work out shipping discounts with winners of multiple items. Please view our other items. Thanks.
