Description
Here's a tough one to find. It's a vintage (1950s) LP titled "Authentic Favorite CALYPSO SONGS" on the Tropicana label (#608) & it features tunes by DUKE OF IRON ("Man Smart, Woman Smarter" "Lost Watch"), THE CHARMER ("Mary Anne" "Brown Skin Gal" "Take Me"), LLOYD THOMAS ("Sex Changin'" "German Calypso" "Bed Bug" "Mary Had No Little Lamb"), LORD KITCHENER ("Lady Want Rent") & LORD INVADER ("Social Party"). I played this Lp & I LOVED it! There was one song in particular I really enjoyed (altho they were ALL great early Calypso tunes). It was titled "Sex Changin' (Lloyd Thomas). It was way ahead of its time! It was hilarious! I couldn't believe they wrote lyrics & sang tunes about a "Sex Change" back in the 1950s! Some of the lyrics read " She never played with dolls when she was small--but put on her pants to play basketball...wife turned from woman to man...she's wearing the pants-you're wearing the dress...things I used to do to my wife as a man--she is doing to me as a woman" Oh my! In any event, if early Calypso/Reggae Roots is your "thing" you will LOVE this LP & I'm sure cherish it by playing it over & over. COVER has some invisible tape reinforced seams & grades a clean VG to VG+ & VINYL is in Excellent shape VG+ with NO scratches & plays wonderful.
