Rare vinyl document from one of the founders of the Canadian Electronic Ensemble, works for electronic tape and live electronics.
Some info on the release: Very rare original issue, released in Canada sometime in the 70's on the CAPAC Portrait Musical series (that featured also musical portraits of Micheline Coulombe Saint-Marcoux, Bernard Bonnier, Yves Daoust, Paul Dolden, Philippe Menard, Alain Thibault, R. Murray Schaffer and many more). This one features some of the most groundbreaking material in the series with pieces for magnetic tape and live electronics performed by the Canadian Electronic Ensemble.
The Canadian Electronic Ensemble was founded in 1971. It is the oldest continuous live-electronic group in the world. Today we take synthesizers for granted. But when the CEE was founded, electronic music could only be heard on tape. The CEE developed a new medium: live electronic music. The synthesizers of the time were enormous and not meant for live performance. Often, the members of the CEE had to design and build their own instruments. Twenty years later, the CEE is still at the forefront of live electronic music.
Canadian Electronic Ensemble (CEE). Composer-performers' group founded in Toronto in 1971 by David Grimes, David Jaeger, Larry Lake and James Montgomery, "to promote the live performance of electronic music and thereby the composition of new repertoire for this medium." Grimes (b Salem, Mass, 9 Mar 1948; B MUS Berklee College of Music 1970, M MUS Toronto 1972; composer of Increscents, which won a prize in the 1976 CBC National Radio Competition for Young Composers) returned to the USA in 1986.
Close to the musical language of Hugh Le Caine, Istvan Anhalt, Michel Longtin, Michael Snow, Gordon Monahan, David Rosenboom, Sonde, Music Gallery Editions and similar.
Condition: Vinyl and cover lie in mint- condition. Vinly looks super clean and plays perfectly, while cover lies in pristine shape, like new.
