Canned Heat '70 Concert Live In Europe is a 1970 live album by Canned Heat. The album is taken from various locations on live concert European tour right before Alan Wilson’s death and is the band's first officially released live album!!!.

Canned Heat is a blues-rock/ boogie band that formed in Los Angeles in 1965. The group has been noted for its own interpretations of blues material as well as for efforts to promote the interest in this type of music and its original artists. It was launched by two blues enthusiasts, Alan Wilson  and Bob Hite, who took the name from Tommy Johnson's 1928 "Canned Heat Blues", a song about an alcoholic who had desperately turned to drinking Sterno generically called "canned heat". After appearances at Monterey and Woodstock. at the end of the '60s the band acquired worldwide fame with a lineup consisting of Bob Hite, vocals, Alan Wilson guitar, harmonica and vocals, Henry Vestine (or Harvey Mandel) on lead guitar, Larry Taylor on bass, and Adolfo ('Fito') de la Parra on drums.

The music and attitude of Canned Heat afforded them a large following and established the band as one of the popular acts of the hippie era. Canned Heat appeared at most major musical events at the end of the '60s and they were able to deliver on stage electrifying performances of blues standards and their own material and occasionally to indulge into lengthier 'psychedelic' solos. Two of their songs - "Going up the Country" and "On the Road Again - became international hits; both were re-workings of obscure blues. At the time all their albums were released for worldwide distribution.!!

Since the early '70s numerous personnel changes have occurred and today, in the fifth decade of the band's existence, Fito de la Parra is the only member from the "classic" 1960s lineup. He has written a book about the band's career. Larry Taylor, whose presence in the band has not been steady, is the other surviving member from the earliest lineups. Harvey Mandel, Walter Trout and Junior Watson are among the guitarists who gained notoriety for playing in later editions of the band. British blues pioneer John Mayall has frequently found musicians for his band among former Canned Heat members.!!

  1. "That's All Right Mama" (Arthur Crudup) - 9:02
  2. "Bring It on Home" (Willie Dixon) - 6:18
  3. "Pulling Hair Blues" (Skip Taylor, Alan Wilson) - 9:20
  4. "Medley: Back Out on the Road/On the Road Again" (Wilson, Floyd Jones, Tommy Johnson) - 6:00
  5. "London Blues" (Wilson) - 7:53
  6. "Let's Work Together" (Wilbert Harrison) - 4:50
  7. "Goodbye for Now" (Harvey Mandel, Fito de la Parra) - 3:25

The Matrix

Side 1 ''LBS 83333 A#1''

Side 2 ''LBS 83333 B#2''

(Earliest for this pressing)

The vinyl

On initial inspection it is had to see a blemish, The vinyls playing surface is lovely and shiny retaining its original sheen from new, and looks truly superbe! Only in strong light can possibly be seen perhapes two or three minor and very small \minute surface marks\scratches which fortunately have very minimal effect at all on the awesome cristal clear audio that I heard! Unbeleivable to find like this after 39 years old!

The Audio Quality,

It is quite obvious, that from the start when the needle hits the playing surface that this vinyl has barely ever been played at all! Importantly there is (no) distortion what so ever and (no) signs of grooveware or that this has been overplayed, the audio is truly exceptionaly vibrant throughout! There is no background crackle nor horrible surface noise (even in between tracks) To be highly critical on side1, only in one quiet place could I hear some very light  static ticks but nothing that spoilt the overal awesome audio experiance in my opinion, I must point out that there was (no) loud clicks or pops and certainly (no) skips or jumps! Truly exceptional audio quality, pure blues at its best!! The audio must grade at least excellent in my opinion if not better!

Please note! I always add this disclaimer, Please allow for the odd light static ticks (not consistant throughout the audio) Please remember that this is a genuine 39 year old vinyl that would have been played on a 39 year old system!

Points to note! This vinyl has been stored in a case with the vinyl sepedrated from the cover for protection A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves from laying dormant causes static ticks\crackle a constant clean before each play is recomended this will reduce any static and enhance the ausdio quality!

The Labels

These are the original 1st issue (blue) Liberty labels in super condition look almost like new! Any spidering that could possibly be seen angled to the light can be counted,(This hass barely ever been played) Unbeleivable to find like this) Little if (no) spindle ware the hole is perfectly round!

The Record Sleeve

This is plain white paper sleeve with 'Made In England' and paten no. printed on it. (no) splits or tares!

The Cover

This is the 1st issue E.Day & Co (Top loader) laminated front gatefold cover. This is in truly exceptional condition super super glossy appearance. No real creases to talk of and (no) real storageware, splits or tares at all! (only when angled to the light on the front can an indentation of a small number be seen) but you would really have to look for it to notice. The spine is exceptional super square, very rare to find like this! This cover must grade at least excellent to excellent plus rare original 1st issue!
