What a pity that violinist Michael Rabin died at the age of just 35, of a debilitating neurological disease. The world lost one of its greatest violinists, at least in the 20th century. On this fine recording, the number and quality of the super-high notes is truly phenomenal. The sweetness of his tone is, in my opinion, second to none. Thankfully, I can say the album plays extremely well. Some lucky fan of violin concerti is going to be pleased indeed!
Label information: Capitol: SP-8534 stereo, rainbow label, Capitol logo at top.
Composer(s) and featured works:
- Paganini: Concerto No.1 for Violin and Orchestra in D
- Wieniawski: Concerto No.2 in d minor for Violin and Orchestra
Performers: Michael Rabin is the solo violinist; Eugene Goosens conducts the Philharmonia Orchestra. Recorded in England, probably in 1959.
Visual grade: NM-/NM-. A few harmless hairlines on each side. No feel-able scratches.
Play grade: Mostly NM on both sides. Only an occasional quiet tick. Surfaces are very quiet.
Jacket grade: VG+. There is some seam repair in lower right of jacket, front and back. Record fits tightly in its sleeve, which is the original light-grey paper inner sleeve supplied by Capitol at one point.
New Policy Changes, Effective July 15, 2015
Only my pricing policy has changed, primarily because of the labor intensive nature of selling records the Craig Chase Vinyl way. My way makes me unique among the other fine record sellers on eBay today. This policy change is the first significant one I’ve made since I first began selling records on eBay over 13 years ago. Some reasons for the change are:
-
I clean every record I sell. I use proprietary methods which are safe and effective and leave your records as clean as possible. I even clean and repair outer sleeves (and sometimes inner sleeves as well!) should they have some reparable damage (e.g., an open seam, surface grime, and the like).
-
I inspect and play-grade every record I sell, except for still-sealed records. (See my grading scale, below).
-
I craft my own heavy-duty mailers, not only to save you money, but to protect your investment as it wings its way to you.
-
I ship your purchases usually within 24 hours of receiving your payment.
-
I offer a no-quibble money-back guarantee should you feel I have exaggerated your record’s condition. Just send it back to me in the shape in which you found it, and I’ll refund your purchase price, including your initial shipping cost. If you prefer to keep the record, I will issue you a partial refund (or credit for a future purchase).
