RECORD CONDITION: EXCELLENT

This effort is a far more accessible work than much of Captain Beefhearts earlier albums, it’s blend of hard-blues and the Captain’s charismatic delivery make you wonder why it didn’t become a far bigger seller.

This lovely first pressing has kept a very strong appearance of newness. It has a dark, gleaming sheen and a general feel of substance and quality. There are no bad marks or scratches, there are no marks on the label and overall it's a record that looks absolutely pristine. A very close visual inspection under a strong light bulb reveals a few light paper scuffs and paper rub marks, these are not serious and do not effect the quality of the sound, they are a minor point although they are the primary factor in my grade. The spindle wear gives the impression of a very small amount of plays, probably around four or five, while the superb audio clarity would appear to back up this theory. The run in grooves are close to silent, between the tracks I picked up a couple of faint light crackles and during the whole album I can recall hearing only the very occasional light pop and a little light but un-intrusive surface noise in a few places, certainly nothing that spoils your enjoyment of the music. In essence, this is a record that has definitely been handled with care.

COVER CONDITION: EXCELLENT

This is a unique original sleeve, produced in nothing more than a PVC outer with a simple 12” card insert. The PVC flap has ‘Clear Spot’ in textured lettering on the reverse. For an album pressed on not exactly thin vinyl and issued without an inner sleeve, it is common for the bottom seam of the cover to have a big split in it. There is a small 2inch split developing at the bottom but fortunately this is not very far advanced, and as long as the record is placed back in its cover with care from now on it shouldn’t develop any further. Other than that small point, the outer sleeve has no other form of damage or blemish. The same can be said of the card insert, which aside from one or two light crease is in excellent shape.

I specialise in selling rare, collectable and hard to find vinyl. All of our ebay listings are play graded, when buying rare records over the internet I suggest that you settle for nothing less. I have been a collector of records and a trader for over 20 years and, as such, I use the experience I have gained in this area to grade & describe the records as accurately as possible. Good luck!
