Vinyl in black 'Straight' liners with 'Bizarre' address. 6-page, 2-fold white paper insert printed single-color black (folds to 12"x12"), lyrics within. Front has half-tone photo of school-age Don Vliet inside a panel, with legend; "Trout Mask Replica - Captain Beefheart". Back & inner spread has line illustrations by "The Mascara Snake" [Vliet's cousin]. Inside facing-page has handwritten 'Manta Ray' poem which is under-signed 'Don Van Vliet'. Works all contained in unlaminated gatefold sleeve. (Pasted, no internal glue-tabs) Errata on labels vs sleeve: "Moonlight On Vermont" is printed wrongly as "Moonlight In Vermont" on label. "The Blimp" is printed "The Blimb" (wrongly) & has "(Mousetrapreplica)" suffix on label. [The intro voice is that of Zappa, recorded via a telephone link to Zappa's studio - with Antennae Jimmy Semens narrating from Vliet's script over the 'phone from the 'Magic Band house'. A field-to-studio recording, on which was resident on a tape channel the members of The Mothers performing the drum-passage to "Charles Ives" aka "Didja Get Any Onya?"]

USA WHITE LABEL PROMO DOUBLE VINYL LP IN GATEFOLD SLEEVE WITH ORIGINAL COMPANY INNER SLEEVES AND LYRIC SHEET.

Why buy a first or early pressing and not a re-issue or a ‘re-mastered’ vinyl album?

First pressings are made from first generation lacquers and stampers. They usually sound vastly superior to later issues and re-issues (which are often pressed from whatever tapes or digital sources are currently available).

Many recent vinyl pressings claim to be mastered from ‘original tapes’ and are pressed on expensive 180g vinyl. Sonically, they frequently sound disappointing when compared to a decent condition first pressing. All too often, they sound like a CD pressed onto vinyl.

If you want the best analogue reproduction possible from vinyl, it is always a better investment to seek out original pressings in clean playing condition. They nearly always have more immediacy, presence and dynamics. The sound staging is wider, and subtle nuances are better placed with more spacious textures. Balances are firmer in the bottom end with the bass far tighter. Upper-mids shine, and the overall depth is more immersive. Inner details are clearer, and the music tends to sound more ‘alive’.

MATRIX NUMBERS IN RUN-OFF GROOVES: Matrix / Runout (Disc 1, A-Side runout, hand-etched): 1 STS-1053-1 O 1A Matrix / Runout (Disc 1, D-Side runout, hand-etched): 1-2 2-STS-1053-4-1B (RE) O A1 Matrix / Runout (Disc 2, B-Side runout, hand-etched): 2-STS-1053-2 (RE) A2 Matrix / Runout (Disc 2, C-Side runout, hand-etched): 2 STS-1053-3 O 1A

SLEEVE: VERY GOOD WITH SOME RING WEAR, CORNER BUMPS/CREASES, SPINE NICKS AND GENERAL SHELF WEAR. NO SEAMS PLITS. INSERT VERY GOOD+, INNER SLEEVES HAVE SEAM SPLITS.

DISCS: VISUALLY VERY GOOD+ THAT MOSTLY PLAY EXCELLENT MINUS. NO SCRATCHES, SOME SPINDLE WEAR LIGHT SCUFFS AND HAIRLINES. CLEAN LABELS.
