CAPTAIN BEEFHEART & HIS MAGIC BAND: TROUT MASK REPLICA (2 LPs) Original Pressing on STRAIGHT Records STS-1053 (Stereo)
Captain Beefheart was the first band FRANK ZAPPA signed to his own label under Warner Brothers, Straight Records. His own work was all on Bizarre Records, other acts he signed, Tim Buckley was another, went on Straight Records. Beefheart's real name was Don Van Vliet, an excellent blues harmonica player, so when Zappa talked Warner Bros into signing him, he convinced WB brass that the Captain was a terrific blues artist! Little did they know that Vliet was eventually to release perhaps the greatest Dadaist art rock album ever. In fact, Time Magazine devoted about 8 pages to this LP, calling it "the greatest work yet produced from the rock genre" after it's release.
The public is always very slow to catch on to anything new - they are usually about two decades behind. Unfortunately for all fans, Vliet passed away last year (2012) after achieving great critical success but never any popularity. Too bad, they were one of the best live bands I've ever seen, perhaps overshadowed a bit by Zappa and the incredible musicians he found for the Mothers (Lowell George, Aynsley Dunbar, Terry Bozzio, Ian & Ruth Underwood, George Duke, and Jean-Luc Ponty to name a few)
These LPs are in very good condition, and the cover shows little wear - I've kept it in a clear plastic sleeve protector all these years, and with 3500 LPs, not many were played too often.
We have a 100% rating from buyers, mostly for LP sales.. in fact, many have commented "the best LP packaging on EBay!"
