Description
Here for auction is a lovely example of the double album by CAPTAIN BEEFHEART & HIS MAGIC BAND titled “TROUT MASK REPLICA”. This is an ORIGINAL 1969 UK 1st PRESSING on the STRAIGHT RECORDS LABEL, Catalogue Number STS 1053, with the EARLIEST A1, B1, C1, D1 Matrix Numbers – EXTREMELY HARD TO FIND!!!
The fragile gatefold sleeve, printed by the E J Day Group, is in VERY GOOD CONDITION. There is some rubbing to the top and bottom edges and spine corners, and light ringwear, but it’s still VERY PRESENTABLE!! The opening edges have very little wear, and all writing on the spine is CLEARLY LEGIBLE.
Both LPs are in EXCELLENT CONDITION and retain their ORIGINAL LUSTRE. There are only a few very light surface marks which do not affect play. The striking STRAIGHT LABELS are also EXCELLENT with just light spindle marks evident.
A critical play-grading on my REGA turntable, showed why these FIRST PRESSINGS are so SOUGHT AFTER. The CLARITY and POWER of the AMAZING SOUNDS that emanate from these grooves is VERY SPECIAL!!! All 4 sides play really well with ALL FREQUENCIES CLEAR AND SHARP, just the odd click and occasional light crackle (NOT intrusive).
Complete with the ORIGINAL plain white inner sleeves.
Overall a very desirable FIRST PRESSING of the Captain’s masterpiece on the ORIGINAL STRAIGHT LABEL.
