Description
Up for auction is a copy of the very rare Mutants of Modern Disco, by none other than Captain Goodvibes. I don’t know if you’d call it an lp or an e.p. as it is a 45r.p.m. 12 inch vinyl, with 4 tracks on either side. Either way, it’s Australian pressing released on the Sticky label in 1978 (#srl 001). For those of you who don’t know, Captain Goodvibes was the cartoon pig created by Tony Edwards, and made famous in the 1970’s by the Australian surfing magazine Tracks. The album features 3 spoken word/social commentaries and 1 musical track on each side, by the Captain himself. To say this album is strange is an understatement….. it makes Captain Beefheart sound like The Seekers! Regardless, this is a very rare and collectable album.
The cover has light ring wear and a couple of spots on the back. No writing, stickers, or tears. Due to the fact the cover is made of thin cardboard, there is a 5” split on the top centre, a 4” split on the spine centre, and a 3” split on the bottom centre. Without the splits I would have rated it (VG), but with them I’d say (VG-).
The vinyl is marbled green and white, and is clean and glossy. It's hard to tell because of the colour of the vinyl, but there’s a few light marks on both sides, but no deep scratches. You can here some background noise in the quieter parts but that’s about it. Based on the sound quality I would rate it as (VG).
The labels are both (Ex), with only a couple of barely noticeable spindle marks.
As mentioned, this is a very hard to find album and is a must for any surf collector. A great display or playing copy, but lets face it if you listen to it on a regular basis you might need to seek professional help!
