In the Land of Grey and Pink is considered by many to be a pinnacle release from Caravan. The album contains an undeniable and decidedly English sense of humor and charm. In addition, this would mark the end of the band's premiere lineup. Co-founder David Sinclair would leave Caravan to form Matching Mole with Soft Machine drummer and vocalist Robert Wyatt in August of 1971. As a group effort, In the Land of Grey and Pink displays all the ethereal brilliance Caravan created on their previous pair of 12" outings. Their blending of jazz and folk instrumentation and improvisational styles hints at Traffic and Family, as displayed on "Winter Wine," as well as the organ and sax driven instrumental introduction to "Nine Feet Underground." These contrast the decidedly aggressive sounds concurrent with albums from King Crimson or Van Der Graaf Generator. In fact, beginning with the album's title, there seems to be pastoral qualities and motifs throughout. Another reason enthusiasts rank this album among their favorites is the group dynamic which has rarely sounded more singular or cohesive. David Sinclair's lyrics are of particular note, especially the middle-earth imagery used on "Winter Wine" or the enduring whimsy of "Golf Girl."

 IT WILL BE A LONG TIME BEFORE THIS TURNS UP AGAIN IN THIS SPLENDID CONDITION WITH AGAIN MORE TAKERS THAN EVER BEFORE. THIS IS AN EXCELLENT INVESTMENT PIECE.

I AM OFFERING ANOTHER HIGHLY SOUGHT AFTER PROG / PSYCH ROCK VINYL LP RARITY FROM MY COLLECTION OF SIMILAR ITEMS !! A FANTASTIC ALBUM BY CARAVAN,  THEIR CREATIVE SUMMIT ACCORDING TO MANY PROG LOVERS,  THOUGH MANY WOULD SAY THAT THEIR FIRST TWO ARE BETTER . THE TRACK "NINE FEET UNDERGROUND" MUST BE ONE OF THE ALL TIME PROG TOP 10 TRACKS ON PAR WITH "SUPPER'S READY" BY GENESIS AND "CLOSE TO THE EDGE" BY YES. WHICHEVER WAY, THIS IS A MUST FOR ANY PROG COLLECTOR.

Vinyl: EX.  This has not been played much and has been looked after by a careful collector for decades!! Just a couple of spindle traces. The audio is fantastic and this vinyl sounds out of this world, a majestic album that actually went largely unnoticed with poor distribution. The audio has beautiful separation and there is barely any background noise. I played this twice in full and thoroughly enjoyed it. There are no marks or hairlines. Under a strong light source a few light wispy paper retraction traces are visible. In normal daylight it looks totally flawless. Played in full on my Linn Sondek/ Rotel/B&W set-up. Needless to say NO jumps, sticks, clicks or ticks. The audio of this recording is simply outstanding and will be an upgrade to most collectors. Wow!!

  Gatefold Sleeve: EX.  A laminated gatefold sleeve, matt on the inside without any damage at all, bar a small bend at the right bottom corner which is not very pronounced at all, but just feel I should mention. The spine is still 100% legible and the opening is crisp. NO writing, NO splits, NO tears etc. The pictures tell all.

This is a unique investment opportunity!!! The next prog album to go completely through the roof. The chance of finding this album in any condition at all is negligible so late in the day. Finding it in this splendid condition will prove nearly impossible!! Get this while you still can. This value of the album is only going to go one way ... up and up ... until it will be totally unavailable at all for a reasonable price.
