“Manuel Poliglota / Hey Jude”

Single 7”

Zip-Zip ZIP 30.040/S

1973

Portugal

Record: Mint (never played)

Cover: Excellent

This is a never-before seen single, featuring an unique cover of the Beatles’ “Hey Jude” in a Portuguese Fado / pop style. It is indeed a magnificent addition to any Beatles fan collection, coupled on the A-side with “Manuel Poliglota”, a song that is most popular nowadays in Portuguse universitary students’ groups.

Carlos Bastos started his career with two impossible to find EP’s in a psych folk vein, but on his third EP he inflected to an unconventional Fado style. This is his first single, after having released 5 EP’s. The Portuguese guitar accompaniment is by António Chaínho, most popular nowadays as one of the promoters of this traditional Portuguese instrument internationally. Don´t lose your chance of getting this much rare record!

Musicians:

Carlos Bastos: vocals

António Chaínho: Portuguese guitar

Zeferino Ferreira: Portuguese guitar

José Maria Nóbrega: acoustic guitar

Raul Silva: acoustic guitar

2 – Hey Jude (lyrics and music: John Lennon – Paul McCartney; arrangements by António Chaínho)
