Today, I have a very rare 10" vinyl acetate for Carly Simon's 1973 single, "The Right Thing To Do/That's The Way." A vinyl acetate is a special type of record used in the music industry for various purposes including test pressings, demos and archival recordings. It's made of aluminum...coated with a layer of vinyl into which grooves are cut, similar to a regular record. They are quite difficult to find if you're a completist collector since there are only a handful made that were usually discarded. I've got the hard part done for you. I found it. Now you can grab it.
The great thing about acetates is that they have a smell. This one certainly does. The vinyl itself is not perfect. Side 1 has a few blemishes and a few light scratches throughout. Most of these imperfections show up in the dead wax on the outside of the record instead of the "groove" portion. Side 2 has been more fortunate and only has very light handling. The spindle hole has definitely been used on this side. A small piece of the black wax has pulled away at the top of the record but it's still in the sleeve. It does not affect the record grooves. Overall, the labels are intact securely, as well. This acetate is housed in a typical brown 12" sleeve with no writing and is also not perfect.
