Excellent Private US Folk/Folk Psych....with gorgeous femvox. This was her 2nd album which was produced by the legendary Bobby Brown (Enlightening Beam of Axonda) who is also featured on background vocals, congas, timbalis, flute, harmonica as well providing some tracks.....Kleyn provides lead vocals and plays harp, keyboards, hummel, kalima, bells, other musicians were Hank Quinn on drums, Cameron Quinn on bass & Bob Hawkins on electric guitar.
Her albums are now better known thanks to the recent reissues on Drag City....here's the review of Takin' The Time:
'Takin' the Time is the follow-up to Carol Kleyn's self-released 1976 debut album, Love Has Made Me Stronger. Kleyn, all but a musical unknown, played harp on street corners and at Renaissance fairs in the late '60s and early '70s. Her debut, on which she accompanied herself solely on harp and piano, is a piece of California cosmic sunshine; innocent and full of wide-eyed wonder, it endures the test of time while simultaneously representing the era. By the time Kleyn recorded Takin' the Time near the end of the decade, she felt she had finally earned the titles of harpist, vocalist, and songwriter. For those who took to the former recording for its starkness and clarity, the first half of this disc will come as a shock. Produced by Bobby Brown (of the cosmic Enlightening Beam of Axonda classic), Takin' the Time features Kleyn in the company of a rock trio, with Brown on backing vocals, percussion, flute, and harmonica. Kleyn plays harp, various keyboards, kalimba, and bells. The first half is very much in early California singer/songwriter terrain, even though it was 1980. The songs are stronger here than on her debut. The studio players are restrained, allowing Kleyn's fragile soprano to hold court, and most of the time are careful not to overwhelm it. The title track is a jaunty, blissed-out folk-rock love song that's perfectly balanced. "Jethro" begins with screaming rock guitars, but Kleyn gets in front and holds her own. The harp takes prominence on "She Lost Her Crown," the strongest ensemble piece here. The Caribbean-tinged "Sailor Take Me" and the Van Dyke Parks-esque "Could Be Heaven" are both marred by production excesses that draw attention from the sheer beauty of Kleyn's singing. Things go back to near perfect on "Tides and Crazy Moons" (voice and harp) and showcase Kleyn's strengths as a writer. "Missy Robin" is another gem with Kleyn accompanying herself on the hummel, a Swedish mountain dulcimer. On "How Long Till Forever," it's a lone, ghostly kalimba. "Intermission" is a haunting harp instrumental. "Prayer," introduced by ocean sounds and screaming seagulls, is the finest song here, with Kleyn's harp anchoring that soaring voice of hers between heaven and earth. Despite the two missteps, Takin' the Time is the better of Kleyn's first two offerings because of its stronger writing and its stellar second half (the third and final reissue is in the works).'

A rare album that seldom turns up....with decent copies usually $50+...this copy is autographed on the rear (Eleonore Thank you Love Carol Aloha).

Quite a nice playing copy!

For urgent/high value items, special delivery is reasonable for weights up to 2Kg, cost is £12 for values up to £500.

CDs & 7" Singles are £1.20 for the first then 50p each after. Thicker CD Box Sets are the same as LPs due to the size/weight.

For items outside of the UK, Royal Mail now use a pricing scale which increases for every 250g instead of 100g previously.

EUROPE: 6 GBP for the 1st LP (under 500g), then additional single LPs are 2 GBP each up to 5 or 6 LPs in total (under 2Kg).

Generally the basic cost for 7+ LPs (over 2Kg, under 10Kg) to most EU destinations is around 25 GBP plus any extra for insurance (50 GBP of insurance is inclusive, higher insurance works out at 1 GBP extra for every 20 GBP of value).

RECORD: PERFECT....AS NEW CONDITION, SO NO DETEORIATION IN THE SOUND QUALITY…..bear in mind that not all ‘new’ LPs are Mint because of the quality of the pressing etc....also SEALED/UNPLAYED LPs are sold as is.....

COVER: AS NEW CONDITION WITH NO OBVIOUS DEFECTS.......except maybe a deletion hole/cutout on a SEALED LP.

M- :

RECORD: SLIGHTY WORSE THAN M, LP may have several surface marks due to removal from it's sleeve etc....but certainly NO audible scratches....LP may have the occasional light crackle/hiss...but still in great condition.

COVER: SHOWS SIGNS OF BEING HANDLED WITH SLIGHT CREASING/WEAR...or may be a M cover with a very slight split seam or very slight showing of ring wear or a very slight sticker tear, but not all of these together.

EX:

RECORD: MOST REGUARLY PLAYED LPs KEPT WITH CARE FALL INTO THIS CATEGORY....LP may play with more hiss/crackle but not louder than the music......sometimes it may be a M or M- LP with one slight audible mark or a very slight edge warp but not affecting it.

COVER: SLIGHTLY MORE WEAR/CREASING/BENDING even some slight ring wear.....or may be a M or M- cover with a split seam(s) and minor sticker tears, but still nice.

VG+ :

RECORD: LP PLAYS WITH MORE NOISE DUE TO EITHER DIRT OR SLIGHTLY STRONGER SURFACE MARKS BUT STILL IS IN A VERY LISTENABLE CONDITION.....or it may be an LP which plays say M- but has a few audible marks/slight warp etc.....but still no skips/jumps.
