In early 1967, Rick Hall's Fame studio lacked one thing: a lasting artist. Clarence Carter, formerly of the duo Clarence & Calvin, walked in after leaving Duke Records. Initially reluctant to sign him solo, Hall gave him a chance. Carter quickly charted on r&b lists and penned Etta James' 'Tell Mama', but major success came after his records moved to Atlantic, with 'Slip Away' selling over a million copies and 'Too Weak To Fight' also going gold. Early albums collected pre-hits, covers and Fame-published songs. This release adds previously unissued material: the demo of 'I'll Be Over After A While', three unknown tracks, and Carter's demo of 'She Ain't Gonna Do Right'.
