Details: - Extremely rare 1st issue/press 1970 UK pink `Island` earlier `Thick Vinyl` in Superb Condition in Top original `MacNeill press` matt sleeve with 1st issue `Basing Street` credits, plus rare orig printed poly-innerbag. (The innerbag being rare in itself!!) - Run out/Matrix side 1 ILPS 9118 A2/ side 2 ILPS 9118 B2,

Vinyl: (EX++/NM) 1st `Thick` Pressing! Top vinyl, In Normal Light shines `As New` with just one visible non feelable hairline, under close scrutiny with bright Halogen Spotlights I can just see the lightest of sleeve removal marks nothing feelable - Plays Great with some really powerful low frequencies due to Samwell-Smith`s classy production (plays with some light dust crackle), Not Mint (do they exist?) but still hard to better, `Top 1st Pink Island Copy` Inserts : some people see the inner bag and think `oh no somebody has written all over it` and throw it away without realizing it is actually printed on and part of the 1st issue `Pink` this one is in EX+/NM condition with some browning on it from glue seepage and possible staining, still very nice and rare!! Sleeve: (EX+/NM) Original `MacNeill Press, London` matt sleeve with first issue `Basing St, London W11`, this sleeve was always prone to serious wear, Clearly Readable pinched spine, minimal top edge wear, some shelf removal edge wear to bottom, no real ring wear to speak of (very unusual), very slight label damage to top rear, such a difficult sleeve to find in top condition this is a real beauty, again not Mint but the best I have seen and I have viewed many of these sleeves - Superb copy overall (see photos)Labels: 1st press `Pink` labels (some colour rub/fade around spindle hole on side 1) - no visible spindle lines
Music: Stevens had spent a year recovering from a collapsed lung he virtually disappeared from the British pop scene. Mona Bone Jakon is notable not only for his return but return as a singer-songwriter.
The album was produced by Yardbirds Paul Samwell-Smith who was one of the early producers in rock to push the lower bass frequencies more prominently into the mix in an attempt to keep up with the new audiophile generation which was embracing larger home speakers and high end phonographic cartridges.

Gradings: I use the standard UK gradings as set out in Record Collector Magazine below:
MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint. EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
Near Mint, EX+, VG+ etc are acceptable additions to help `fine tune` descriptions for the buyer
