Septober Energy is the only album of the jazz/progressive rock big band Centipede. Produced by Robert Fripp.

Talk about an assault on your senses! This recording from Centipede, a huge jazz-rock/prog orchestra , produced by King Crimson's Robert Fripp and featuring compositions composed by Keith and Julie Tippett, is a noisy, avant-garde, four piece section of extended music. There's nothing that resembles commerciality here, just free-form blowing and lots of cacophony, yet somehow it all works. Think of Zappa's big-band era in the early 70's mixed with the Soft Machine and you get a good sense of what is in store here.

Keith Tippett put together this 50 piece orchestra with personnel from Soft Machine, King Crimson, Nucleus, as well as many other notable jazz and rock musicians. The music goes from manic, disjointed bursts of eclectic mayhem, to more quiet, atmospheric moments. Fans of frenzied woodwinds and horns will love the many squeals of saxes, trumpets, trombones, oboes, flugelhorns, and clarinets. While there are also keyboards and guitars, this project is more about the aforementioned instruments, with a rock solid bass and drum section. Vocals are sung sparingly, and at times you barely will even notice them. Part Two might be the best section, with a sombre opening coloured with numerous sax and flugelhorn lines before the guitar and full orchestra comes crashing in for some hard edged stomping.

Septober Energy is not for everyone, as at times it is a bit jarring, but for avant-garde jazz lovers and those into experimental progressive rock with a fusion edge, this will be a real treat.

We offer combined shipping on all LPs / 12" Vinyls: our shipping rates are listed above. HOWEVER shipping packages that weigh more than 2kg is VERY expensive. Therefore we can only offer combined shipping up to a maximum of SEVEN (7) LPs / 12" vinyls. Any extra purchases will be invoiced, packaged and shipped separately.

COMBINED POSTAGE FOR DIFFERENT FORMATS will be invoiced at my discretion:

While I am happy to combine (for example) one or two 7” singles into one package with 12” records, sometimes it simply isn’t practical (like if you want me to combine one 12” record with three or more 7” records). I simply do not think that these combinations can be packaged together safely and securely. Therefore these will be invoiced separately as two packages.

PAYMENT

I would appreciate payment within seven days of the auction’s end. If you want to bid on more of my auctions ending a week later please inform me. I will wait and issue a combined invoice at the close of the second week’s auctions.

However, I am no longer willing to carry combined transactions beyond two weeks and in these cases would appreciate payment promptly after the close of the second week’s auctions.

I am sorry to have to introduce these measures – I always try to be patient and allow buyers to bid on extra auctions and / or delay payment. Unfortunately some buyers have been stretching out transactions to unacceptable lengths so I feel I have no option but to limit ‘carried over’ transactions to two weeks.
