According to the person from whom we acquired this item (a good friend of ours and a very fine gentleman), this album comes from the estate of the legendary Rock critic, journalist, liner notes writer and freelancing talent scout Al Aronowitz (1928-2005) best known for introducing  Bob Dylan to The Beatles in 1964. Aronowitz was the original manager of  The Velvet Underground, getting the band their first gig in the auditorium of the high school in Summit, New Jersey (The Velvet Underground stole Aronowitz's tape recorder and dumped him weeks later when they met Andy Warhol) . In a historically infamous episode known as "I want to hold your bong", Aronowitz introduced Bob Dylan to the Beatles in a New York City hotel room on August 28, 1964. According to his own journal entries, at this meeting he brought a marijuana joint which would be the first pot smoked by the Beatles. So...if you are wondering who was responsible for "tripping" the Beatles into recording all those mind-blowing, consciousness-expanding psychedelic masterpieces such as Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts' Club Band, Magical Mystery Tour, The White Album or Abbey Road, seek no further. It was the Man who owned this fine piece.

This, the Chambers Brothers' coming-of-age record, was a well-timed and even better executed exercise in modern record-making. The brothers had recorded several excellent gospel-folk sides on a few labels (including CBS) in the mid-'60s. They were darlings of the folk set, and even sang backup on a few unreleased Bob Dylan sessions in 1965. By 1967, they were at loose ends. Having demoed a slightly demented song that year called "Time Has Come Today," the group entered the studio with producer David Rubinson, who was fresh from some critical acclaim after recording Moby Grape. The resulting album and subsequent title track hit were huge successes, especially on FM radio. The rest of the album shows the brothers not just embracing the psychedelic trends, but also redefining their R&B leanings.

An awesome early psychedelia collides with some tough Rhythm & Blues and sparks fly all over the place. Easily one of the most underrated (and greatest) psychedelic albums ever recorded. Why this isn’t on everyone’s favorite list, we have not a clue. Finding a still sealed original PROMO copy?!?! Forget it – not even a HOPE!!! This may be the last one you will ever see.

The PROMOTIONAL, RADIO STATION-, AUDITION OR DEMONSTRATION COPIES AND RELEASES (such as the one we have here) were often distributed among the radio stations before the record was released to the public, sometimes as much as four months ahead. These records are generally considered to be the "first among equals", which is to say the VERY FIRST generation and the VERY FIRST pressings of the particular title; a PROTOTYPE and the earliest known official pressing of the record.

(a)           THE RECORD IS STILL FACTORY SEALED IN ITS ORIGINAL PLASTIC BAGGY (TYPICALLY USED IN THE MID-60s) AND IS BELIEVED TO BE PERFECTLY MINT. (b)           The record is STILL in its original inner, perforated plastic baggy (sealed).

(c)            The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-          Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the top seam   (nothing significant)

-          Cover shows some light yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.

-          Cover has one corner slightly dinged (nothing significant)
