TITLE : WHIPLASH

In 1970 a group from Derby calling themselves 'CHARGE' took a tape they made of two songs in the local Uni library to a small pressing plant and had a few 7" records made, their only release...

Catalogued in recent price guides as a £20 private pressing, this disc has flown under the radar, with the 'B' side being spotted as being a good piece of Pink Floyd sounding psych and included on a CD compilation of the genre.

Now for the juicy stuff...

PLAY THE SOUND BITE (SNIPPET OF SIDE B "BORING SONG")

The small pressing plant they group went to to get this record pressed was DEROY, much saught after by collectors looking for those rare folk/psych discs, the disc has the matrix stampers of ADM549, the ADM prefix is a known DEROY stamper, this places this disc as being pressed at the DEROY plant late 1969 early 1970.  the stamper itself is the bold heavy font stamp that is the Deroy way.

It is believed that only 25 copies of this MONSTER RARITY were ever made, making the quantity to have survived the last 40 years possibly a single digit amount.

The sleeve is stamped with a gold circular stamp (see pic), three lips and the name DAVE YOELL

By the end of 1968 the Pink Floyd psychedelic sound was sounding dated, it has been suggested that Nick Mason may have helped stamp his influence on this 'BORING SONG'... working with or alongside Dave Yoell... maybe it was just an influence during the PEMT days... but there is definately something highly Pink Floyd styled about the song, with irony that might not be lost on maybe somebody wanting to change direction?  This has only been suggested, but the connections, the sounds... it's all slim and also possible... PLAY THE SOUND BITE AGAIN, TURN UP THE VOLUME... !!!

The sleeve is a basic white paper sleeve with the die-cut centre, the sleeves were printed with the records in situ, hence why the printing is only picked up in a circular shape, and the plain white labels have got the rest of the print... the side pictured is the "Boring Song" side, which has what is similar to news paper print/stories around the edge (unreadable as stories), and the central picture on the sleeve/label is of the group... the other side doesn't reference the group and is black and white newspaper type TV listings (this side is Matrix stamped as the 'A' side, but this actually the reverse of the sleeve).

The sleeve is a little aged and worn, the disc is unfortunately a little crackly.

'WHIPLASH' unfortunately also suffers from tape stretching... probably from the recording stage, this isn't a fault of the record... maybe the pressing plant or just master tape.

So.. to sum up, a SUPER RARE less than 25 copies DEROY psychedelic Pink Floyd sounding 7" single, with vague but possible Pink Floyd connection!
