Description
Up for auction is a very clean copy of the Charles Mingus album "Ah Um" released on Columbia Records (CL 1370) released in 1959. This is an authentic original deep groove, MONO first pressing with "1B and 1G" stampers in the dead wax.
This is one of the nicer copies that you'll come across. The cover is very well preserved, especially for a non-laminated original. These matte finish covers are very prone to wear and tear, but this one is still in fantastic shape compared to most. Graphics are bright and clean, no tears, no fraying. Seams are strong, intact, no cracking, no chip loss, no splits. Bottom middle of front shows a hint of rubbing around the Columbia lettering. Back cover is beautifully clean, bone-white, no writing, no ring wear, no age discoloration, no spotting. Has a small factory inspection in upper right. Overall, I'd grade the cover Near Mint/Near Mint Minus (NM/NM-).
The vinyl is in very clean condition, no obvious scratches, scuffs, or marks. Looks to have been very carefully handled, with no signs of much previous playing. Nice shiny luster to the faces, and no marks around the spindle holes. I've play tested this copy and overall it sounds really nice and clean, full-bodied mono sound. Side One opens with a very small amount of background noise in the lead in groove, but quickly disappears, leaving the music quiet when it should be, powerful and clear otherwise. No real distractions from the pleasurable listening experience. A very clean copy. I'd grade this vinyl Near Mint/Near Mint Minus (NM/NM-).
