In 1977 one of Jazz’s greatest composers Charles Mingus released an album on Atlantic titled ‘Cumbia and Jazz Fusion’.
The album has just two tracks each over 20 minutes in length exploring the line between Colombian Cumbia and Jazz.
The album was recorded with a fifteen piece band, incorporating birdsong, percussion, horns, piano and contrabass all complementing Mingus’ trademark Double Bass playing.
Originally intended to be released as the soundtrack to Elio Petri‘s 1976 film ‘Todo Modo’ but the director rejected Mingus’ compositions and ended up working with Ennio Morricone.
What was left was ‘Cumbia and Jazz Fusion’, a rare album from the end of Mingus’ career

Factory-fresh labels - just one spindle traces on Side Two, none on Side One

Both vinyl surfaces shine like-new - a couple of superficial marks are visible but these have no impact on the sound

My play-check at volume found just a couple of spots of surface at the beginning of Side Two, nothing I found intrusive - Side One is perfect

As clean, sharp and fresh as the day it was made

Again, like-new - no seam splits - just a little foxing to the pure white side
