Item description

Artist: Charles Mingus
Title: Pithecanthropus Erectus
Label: Atlantic
Pressing info: original mono USA copy

Cover: 5cm split in the spine in the upper left corner, classification sticker on back cover, foxing on back cover, 2-digit control stamp on the lower right corner on back cover
Vinyl: In strong daylight the surfaces look like new. Under a bulb providing strong light I can see some spotting, so visually I'll give it VG+. It is hard to describe it, perhaps it is from manufacturing or a reaction between the vinyl and the paper inner sleeve? There are NO scratches even when looking at the surfaces under a bulb. Side A plays great and quiet. I only noticed some very light background noise in the first 5 seconds or so and 2-3 scattered pops. The first half of side B where the music is low plays with some light background noise. I wouldn't say it is very destructive but definitely not for the audiophiles. The rest of side B plays great with light background noise becoming apparent again only at the very end.  (see below for vinyl grading)

Please feel free to ask questions, request to see more photos, or ask me to play the record before bidding.

Vinyl grading

Vinyls are inspected under a bulb providing strong light. Careful visual grading unless otherwise noted.

MINT New record fresh from the factory.
NM Clean glossy surfaces with no marks. Expect to play line new.
VG++ Very few light marks that should not affect play. Expect to play like NM but visually not as good as NM.
VG+ Some marks are visible that may produce some sound deterioration in a few places. Still offers a very enjoyable listening experience, but not for the audiophiles or the meticulous collectors.
VG Numerous marks are visible. There will probably be some ticks, pops, and crackle, but overall offers an enjoyable listening experience. The vinyl is still nice and is by no means trashed!
G Numerous scratches. Expect to play rather rough.

Cover grading

All visible flaws in the cover will be mentioned in details. Do not expect any surprises!
