CHARLIE MINGUS JAZZ WORKSHOP - PITHECANTHROPUS ERECTUS LP - Original Black & Silver Deep Groove labels - 1956 ATLANTIC RECORDS MONO LP 1237
Artist: THE CHARLIE MINGUS JAZZ WORKSHOP
Title: PITHECANTHROPUS ERECTUS
Label/Cat#: ATLANTIC / 1237 (Original U.S. MONO Deep Groove Black & Silver label pressing w/New York address) (dead wax stampers are: side 1: C 11373 AT side 2: A 11374 AT)
vinyl: EX+ (The record has a beautiful shine and looks fantastic in most every way. Only a few barely visible light surface hairlines/scuffs that do not effect play. Music plays STRONG and LOUD with no loud or intrusive pops or noise, just the ocassional normal quiet pop & crackle that most all top condition records have from this golden era of jazz...likely has only been played but a few times ever in it's lifetime. This is the DEEP GROOVE heavy vinyl original silver & black label Atlantic pressing!! Labels look absolutely fantastic with tight spindle holes. A wonderful copy of this RARE infamous jazz recording!)
cover: EX (Cover looks really beautiful overall. No seam splits, bends or ring wear at all. The high shine laminated front cover looks fantastic w/just a touch of shelf wear in the form of some fine barely-visible scratches and one small circular spot of wear that reveals white paper, really nothing that is at all that visually distracting. The back cover has a few small ghost spots of discoloration and one very small price written neatly in the upper lefthand corner, but again really nothing at all visually distracting. Truly a beautiful copy of this amazing jazz rarity!)
Up for auction is the increasingly RARE and immensely desirable "Pithecanthropus Erectus" LP by The Charlie Mingus Jazz Workshop on Atlantic, catalog # 1237. This is the original 1956 deep groove MONO pressing with the black with silver print Atlantic label. Joining Charlie Mingus on this LP are Jackie McLean on bass, J.R. Montrose on tenor sax, Mal Waldron on piano and Willie Jones on drums. A wonderful lively recording with some quite interesting flourishes of yelps and inventive noises that adds a very distinctive sound to this infamous jazz record; truly deserving of all the praise it has gathered over the years since it's release. Past copies of this rare deep groove pressing have recently sold for upwards of 400 dollars in VG+ condition. I have set the opening bid on this truly fine copy at a VERY LOW 150 dollars with no reserve. Thanks for viewing my auction. Paypal only Please.
