CHARLES TOLLIVER / MUSIC INC. – Compassion (1980) Strata-East-8001 – EX/M- (cover/vinyl)
A rare late release by the great Strata-East Records jazz label. This is modal jazz with a funk edge, originally recorded in 1977 and not released for three years. Here it’s Charles on trumpet with Nathan Page on guitar, Steve Novosel on bass and Alvin Queen on drums. The tracks are “Earl’s World,” “Impact,” “Compassion” and “Truth” – four great long songs. This is one of the more obscure issues on the label as it came so late.
This is a beautiful copy. The cover is tight and has almost no wear but there is a slight disk impression in the cover and a few crimps, but it’s still bright and white. It does have a cut corner at the top right front corner. The vinyl is beautiful and looks unplayed. I grade this conservatively: EX/M- (cover/vinyl).
