Charley Patton - "Founder Of The Delta Blues" Yazoo Records L-1020 from 1970(?). Super Hard To Find Original Vinyl version of this essential Country Blues double album featuring almost all of Patton's important songs. It is, quite simply, one of the most important blues records in existence. Recorded between 1929 and 1934. Includes liner notes, pictures and lyrics by Stephen Calt, Jerry Epstein, John Fahey, Don Kent, Nick Perls, Michael and Alan Wilson on the inside of the Gatefold cover and the enclosed 8 page Book. Also includes the Original offer Postcard for Stephen Calt and Gayle Wardlow's book "King Of The Delta Blues". Importantly, since the only existing recordings of Patton are on 78s, this compilation is acknowledged as the best sounding example of Patton's work available.

In super nice condition! The Gatefold cover shows maybe just the slightest bit of storage wear and has a very slight stain an inch or so long and 1/4" high in the lower left corner of the bottom edge. Still pretty much as New other than the almost invisible stain and would easily rate at least VG+ and probably better! The included Booklet and Postcard are Near Mint with the slight exception that one of the staples holding the booklet together appears to have been mis-stapled, the staple pulled and re-stapled in the correct position. I believe that this was a factory defect and all it amounts to it an extra set of staple holes in two of the pages of the book. You would probably never notice it...unless I didn't mention it :-) Please note - any marks, streaks or blotches that you may see which are not mentioned in the write up (like those in the upper right corner of the cover) are scanner artifacts, not defects in the record cover... I will list any actual defects! The Vinyl is super! You can spot a couple light sleeve scuffs if you really look close (and have good eyes...) but, judging by the lack of any visible spindle trails on the label, I'd guess that it is quite likely unplayed or at least certainly not played much! In super clean, close to New condition and should easily rate Near Mint! The labels are also Near Mint!

Records are graded to the best of my ability to Goldmine Visual standards. If you are not familiar with this grading system (or even if you think you are!), please check it out before bidding I have summarized the important (i.e. I think everyone knows what Mint means) points below in Goldmine's words:

Very Good Plus (VG+): Record surfaces may show some slight signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experience. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK.

Very Good (VG): Surface noise will be evident upon playing,... Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as will light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound.

I stand by my grades but would like us to be on the same page so no problems arise. I have been selling Vintage Vinyl for over eleven years on the net and I can count the returns I've had on one hand so I believe my grading is fair and accurate. One important note, I try to grade to these Goldmine guides as best as I can understand and apply them. This gives us both a written standard to go by rather than having to guess. But.... it also means that I don't issue refunds over differences of opinion in grading i.e. "That's not MY idea of a VG record!" - I don't know what your standards are and, as such, can't grade to them. I guarantee that items I sell will meet my description, nothing more or less! If you are not satisfied that a purchase meets my description, I will do what I can to make it right if you give me the chance and work with me! Please feel free to check my feedback.
