CHARLIE AND RAY
I Love You Madly / You're To Blame
HERALD 438
Original 1958 First Pressing
RARE BLACK GAY DOO WOP VOCAL GROUP
DETAILS: Hard to find original Charlie and Ray first pressing on Herald Records. Charlie and Ray were an unabashedly open Gay and Black doo wop / northern soul vocal group performing during the 1950's. They presented themselves as not drag queens, which was a popular method at the time, but as straight looking singers with a singular delivery. As unique as there music was, they were discriminated against by many radio stations of the time because of there sexual orientation. This discrimination continues to this day with most music guides and reference sources intentionally omitting the groups contributions to soul music. Too bad as there music is amongst the finest soul ever created! Please note that this record is an original first pressing and not a later reissue. We carry amongst the largest selection of original Doo Wop & Northern Soul records online. To view our current inventory be certain to visit the Soul category of our ebay store.
