Description
Great vintage jazz LP featuring CHET BAKER and ART PEPPER on the World Pacific label, Pacific Jazz Series, from 1957. Title is PLAYBOYS, catalog number is PJ-1234, monaural pressing with wide deep groove (see scan). Personnel are: CHET BAKER - trumpet, ART PEPPER - alto sax, PHIL URSO - tenor sax, CARL PERKINS - piano, CURTIS COUNCE - bass, and LAWRENCE MARABLE - drums.
Jacket is in excellent condition. Graphics are nice and bright, does show some wear spots on seams and there is a 4 inch split along the bottom starting at the bottom right corner. Also, the bottom right corner has a very small tip of the corner torn, revealing the grey cardboard underneath (see scan). The reverse is overall very nice, the only flaws are a very minor bit of darkening and a small water stain at the top center, almost unnoticeable. The original owner wrote initials J.M. in very small pencil letters at top right, which could be erased but I did not attempt. Overall the cover shows very nicely and will be acceptable to nearly every collector. Vinyl is very nice, nearly full 100% gloss, has some very light paper scuffs on each side but no serious marks, plays great with full fidelity. I think the winning bidder will be very pleased!
Side One contains following songs: "For Minors Only" (J. Heath, 3:59), "Minor-Yours" (Pepper, 6:40), "Resonant Emotions" (J. Heath, 5:41), and "Tynan Tyme" (Pepper, 5:31). Side Two contains following tunes: "Picture of Heath" (J. Heath, 6:34), "For Miles and Miles" (J. Heath, 6:24), and "C.T.A." (J. Heath, 5:09). A must-have for the west coast jazz fan, and the question is, do you play it, or display it?? (or both?!)
