Description

CHET BAKER IN PARIS
THE COMPLETE BARCLAY RECORDINGS
FSR BOX 1

Audiophile Box set reissue of the complete French Barclay recordings of trumpet legend Chet Baker. The box holds the following items as originally produced by Jordi Pujol’s Fresh Sounds company located in Barcelona, Spain in 1986:

7" EP with glossy original colour sleeve – Barclay 74020
7" EP with glossy colour sleeve (previously unreleased)
12" LP with glossy original colour sleeve: Chet Baker Quartet – Barclay 84009
12" LP with glossy original colour sleeve: Chet Baker Quartet – Barclay 84017
12" LP with glossy original colour sleeve: Chet Baker & his Quintet with Bobby Jaspar – Barclay 84042
Black/white reproduction of a handbill for the 1955 Chet Baker Paris Concert

All vinyl on all records is NM and they look like unplayed. The only exception to be mentioned is a mark on the beginning of Side 2 of Barclay 84042 (possibly a pressing flaw) causing 16 ticks at the entrance of DINAH.

The box itself is NM as are the jackets of the LPs and EPs inside. On the whole the item is almost brand new – and appears just as it was first released 25 years ago. Few of these box sets were made and they are very difficult to find now – especially in such superb condition! Buyer’s satisfaction is guaranteed.

For serious collectors the three LPs Chet Baker made for Eddie Barclay’s label from autumn 1955 till spring 1956 constitute the Sanctified Trinity of European vinyl jazz. The original pressings are mega-rare items that are seldom offered on eBay – it is almost impossible to gain NM copies. The first session for Barclay contains the last recordings of Chet’s pianist Dick Twardzik who died shortly afterwards. Tenor saxophonists Bobby Jaspar and Jean-Louis Chautemps belonged to Europe’s most promising new talents in the mid-fifties, and for Francy Boland this was the first studio encounter with one of America’s undisputed major league heroes.

For those jazz lovers not familiar with the complete discography I will add some details here:

I have been a collector of vinyl jazz and books for more than 40 years, and I am only selling records of my extensive personal collection. As I am missing the time to listen to all my records carefully much of the grading is optical. Of course I am interested in buyer’s satisfaction – for me selling records simply means sharing beauty with others. Please check my feedback profile for further information and have a look at my other auctions, too!

PAYMENT for international customers: PayPal or bank transfer (in EURO including IBAN / BIC code – EU countries only!) is strongly recommended for international buyers. No checks and no cash, please! Uninsured letter mail (sufficient for this box set) costs USD 10, for a registrated letter add USD 3. Please ignore other fees possibly listed on this website besides my description, I cannot ship this item worldwide for USD 4,00. For other ways of shipping (for example insured parcels) please inquire! Of course I cannot be responsible for uninsured items. I am sorry, but “registrated” does not mean “insured” in case of expensive records!
