GRADING STANDARDS: Mint (M): A Mint record and picture sleeve must both appear to be absolutely perfect in every way. For this reason the grade is seldom used.
Near Mint (NM): Otherwise Mint, a nearly perfect record will have only one or two tiny, inconsequential flaws that do not affect play. The disc is shiny and will play without any surface noise. Picture sleeves should still be close to perfect with minor signs of wear or age just becoming evident.
Excellent (EX): An excellent record or picture sleeve will have a minimum of audible or visual imperfections. The record has been handled and played very carefully. The disc may have light paper scuffs or spindle marks that do not affect the listening experience. Picture sleeves will show only minor signs of wear or age, and may have a cutout marking and some slight signs of handling or wear, including a tiny bit of ring wear.
Very Good Plus (VG+): The vinyl is considered a good playable copy that may display more signs of wear than an EX grade, but one's overall listening experience will still be positive. Picture sleeves may also display more signs of light storage wear or aging, but not affect the beauty of the artwork.
Very Good (VG): Many of the defects seen in a VG+ record or picture sleeve will be more pronounced on a VG record. The record will display visible signs of handling and playing, and looks like it will play with some audible surface noise, although any such noise should not overwhelm the musical experience. Picture sleeves may display a variety of problems, although none of the flaws should be overwhelming, and limited to no more than a couple.
Good (G): A record in good condition can be put onto a turntable and will play through without any repeating "skips", although it will have more severe audible surface noise and scratches than a VG record. Picture sleeves will also have even more pronounced defects than a VG sleeve. This grade is usually reserved for rarer records that are difficult to find.
