Chris Clark - who - in addition to being (or probably precisely because she was) a beautiful blonde, was Barry Gordy's one-time…um…confidante - never really fit the rest of the Motown roster and stuck out like a sore thumb. In many ways, she was a black sheep (on second though, make that: white crow) in a predominantly black Motown roster. Her blend of pop, blue-eyed soul and motown R&B never quite took off and was considerably different - in many ways better - from Motown was doing at the time. There are some real gems on this album, and we dare call this one of our favorite blue-eyed psychedelic soul albums ever. Incredibly hard to find - probably because the album did not sell well to begin with and was quickly discontinued

Sporting one of the most morbid, demented inner gatefold artworks in the history of recorded music (Chris Clarke surrounded by various ghouls, wax figures, macabre images, gargoyles, disfigured dolls, Chris’ corpse sitting in an armchairs at the bottom of the pool and alike); one has to wonder if Chris Clark was a Satanic-Cult-member, or a member of Charles Manson’s “Family” or Anton LaVey’s Church of Satan around the time this album came out. Luckily for us, the music on this album is totally detached from these infernal images and devoid of morbid connotations.

THE WHITE LABEL PROMO, RADIO STATION-, AUDITION OR DEMONSTRATION COPIES AND RELEASES (such as the one we have here) were often distributed to the radio stations before the record was released to the public, sometimes as much as four months ahead. These records are generally considered to be the "first among equals": the VERY FIRST generation and the VERY FIRST pressings of the particular title; a PROTOTYPE and the earliest known official pressing of the record.

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL  AS  NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs -  are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible,  and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)            The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT EXCELLENT OR VERY GOOD+++.

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         The  cover has a few yellowish dust speckles scattered here and there (these tiny spots are not overly obtrusive or distracting)  (nothing significant)

-         Minor shelf wear noted on the seams (nothing significant)

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 2 (front side) and 3 (back side)

-         Cover has a visible wrinkle (crease) in the cardboard base on the front panel

-         Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.

-        No split seams

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No writing

-        No stamps

-        No tearing: no chips, dents or nicks on the seams

-        No peel-off marks

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No stickers or labels

-        No water damage

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or  cuts.

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
