"Eartha Mae Kitt (January 17, 1927 – December 25, 2008) was an American singer, actress, cabaret star, dancer, activist and voice artist, known for her highly distinctive singing style and her 1953 recordings of "C'est Si Bon" and the enduring Christmas novelty smash "Santa Baby", which were both US Top 10 hits. She starred in 1967 as Catwoman, in the third and final season of the television series Batman. Orson Welles once called her the "most exciting woman in the world"."
 

Original recording

" "Santa Baby" was originally recorded by Eartha Kitt with Henri René and his orchestra in New York City, in July 1953. It was released by RCA Victor Records as catalog number 20-5502 (in the USA), and by EMI on the His Master's Voice label as catalog number B 10728. The song was a huge hit for Kitt, and she later said that it was one of her favorite songs to record; she reprised it in the 1954 film New Faces. Kitt re-recorded the song for Kapp Records in 1963, using a more uptempo arrangement (Madonna's popular rendition for the 1987 charity album A Very Special Christmas was based on this latter version). In 1954, Kitt recorded a new version of the song with new lyrics titled "This Year's Santa Baby" to no commercial success. Writers listed did not change.

Eartha Kitt ?– Santa Baby / Under The Bridges Of Paris

THE VINYL :  VG+ :  the shellac surfaces retain much of their original gloss, with moderate spindlewear evident on the labels.   Present on both sides are some light marks, including sleevewear and a few hairlines.
"Santa Baby" has one relatively long mark that looks worse than it sounds. I did a playgrade and there is a very little audio effect- making the sound quality closer to EX. There are no deep marks, no chips, no cracking.


THE COVER :  EX :  This Original paper cover has  no writing, paper loss, or stains.  Present are few bends,  light ringwear,  and some age-related yellowing to the predominantly white background color.

This particular paper "Picture" cover was an early, successful experimentation by the recording industry with combining label marketing with musician photos for single releases. This one has an important place in recording history, as "picture sleeves" were used extensively in the impending development of 45 RPM records.
