CHRISTOPHER JONES - RARE Canadian Original Cast LP - This album ranks in the top 5 of the rarest and hardest to find of all the Original Cast Albums produced in this Country . In all my years of collecting, this copy, from my own collection, is the only one I have ever seen. It was created and produced at the famed HART HOUSE THEATRE in Toronto in 1960, where it opened February 8. The book and lyrics are by GINO MATTEO, who has gone on to a successful career in design in the U.S.A. Music by JIM DORIS. The director was BARRY CALLAGHAN, who is one of our most respected writers. (He is the son of the even more famous author, MORLEY CALLAGHAN). CLIFF COLLIER, a professional and star dancer, was choreographer. All other credits are listed on the back of the jacket. The musical numbers are: OVERTURE - BIG CITY MORNING - I LIKE AMBITIOUS MEN -YES! YES! B.J. - ORGANIZATION WALTZ - SWELL SWELL - GOING UP - SECRETARIES SONG - I DON'T WANT TO FEEL THE WAY I DO - MARGUERITE - WONDERIN' - REFELCTIONS OF A GROOM TO BE - WISH YOU LUCK and GOING UP (REPRISE). The following is taken from the back of the cover:

"CHRISTOPHER JONES" - the 1960 All-Varsity Revue, tells the story of a young man making his way in the world of big business. The hero arrives in town full of ambition and joins the Lovely Lady Manufacturing Company with the exalted rank of Elevator Boy. The rest of the show describes his swift rise to control of the company, and his equally swift descent when he runs afoul of the the company's unscrupulous managing director, Percy Blifil, who has a few ambitions of his own. But Christopher salvages something from the wreck of his career - the boss's daughter, Stephanie Collins who has been transformed by his love from a walking business machine into a woman who starts life afresh with him, as Mrs. Jones. In he course of the show, the audience is treated to a free-wheeling tour of various aspects of the "Organization", including the secretaries who have trouble keeping their bosses at bay, and the Sales Executives who are so well-drilled that they move in unison to a tune called "The Organization Waltz". This record attempts to capture the gaiety, vitality, and satiric bits which has made "CHRISTOPHER JONES" one of the liveliest college musicals in years."

There is no record name or number and more than likely the album was made and released by HART HOUSE themselves.

Barry Callaghan was born in Toronto in 1937. He has been a professor at York University since 1966. From 1966 to 1971, he was literary editor of Toronto Telegram; a producer and war correspondent for CBC's Public Affairs from 1968-71; a commentator on CTV network, 1976-1982; and is the founder and editor of Exile: A Literary Quarterly and Exile Editions.
