CHUCK BERRY. Quality 1727 (Cdn press of Chess master) Johnnie B. Goode/Around And AroundThis classic single needs no words of introduction. ‘Johnny Be Goode’ hit # 8 in May, 1958.
It’s illuminating to compare Around and Around with the Stones’ version just so see how much the group owes to Chuck Berry.
Only the second copy I’ve had to offer in nearly a dozen years on eBay. Good luck.
This gem visually grades your-average-rock-and-roll-78 V+ with loads of soft stacking rubs, scuffs, some wear and a few light scratches. Better-heard-than-seen! Grooves are in decent shape though. Spot-checked, thoroughly. The LOUD late fifties 78 pressing plays strong for the grade – full, fat and loud – with light surface noise in the stop-start-stop performance of Around And Around . Labels have light wear but are generally fine. Comes in a vivid Quality factory sleeve.
Not pristine but scarce in any shape, this one will be perfect for the juke box or a decent place holder till that elusive E+ copy comes along.
78s come in used but nice vintage green sleeves or, when possible, original paper sleeves.
I do my spot-checking and play testing on a Technics 1200 turntable with a Stanton 500 cartridge using a standard Stanton 2.7 stylus. The amp is a mid-70s Pro-Linear with the mono switch activated. The speakers are small professional recording studio monitors (Yamaha NS 10) that are known for being overly bright – great for spotting that mild surface noise!
I ship 78s as I like to receive them - using the four-sheet 10” cardboard sandwich, foam chips, 12" x 12" x 4 "(or 6") box method.
I use standard 78 grading (E+, E, E-, V+, V, V- etc). I’ll sometimes use double plus or minus signs to really hone in on the shape.

I charge actual postage plus an extra dollar and a half (give or take a few cents, depending on the state of the constantly fluctuating US and Canadian dollars) to help pay for packing materials and, now, to help compensate for eBay’s new final-value-fee on shipping charges.
