Description

CHUCK BERRY IS ON TOP ORIGINAL 1959 CHESS LP 1435 RARE

Item: Chuck .. Berry Is On Top

Catalog:  Chess LP 1435

Condition Check:   VG+

Date of Issue:  1959

You are viewing a very rare copy of the Chuck Berry LP "Chuck..Berry Is On Top" - Original Copy of the 1959 LP Chess # LP 1435 - I purchased this record with some other original records all from the same era - This is  a super rare first pressing of Chuck Berry Is On Top, recorded on the Chess Label LP-1435 in High Fidelity. This is the Black Label with Silver Print, and it has the sheldon stamp in the dead wax as it should, along with the record number inscribed. The 52 year old, thick album cover is in excellent condition and will be a winner in the Music Room. There is no real discoloration, ring wear, tape, tears, writing or wrinkles, just a 6" upper right corner seam split. The cover is still very tight, as it is not a stretched split. I am sure it could be easily fixed from the inside and it would never be noticed. It is not a real bad split, and it should be an easy fix for the expert (I will leave it up to the new owner). The liner notes in back are clean, with just a hint of discoloration. The black shiny record has retained its rich, glossy look and the labels are clean. I inspected the rare record under a 100 watt light and there were no feelable scratches or groove lines, just some light surface scratches/scuffs/paper cuts that did not affect a super clean listening experience. There is a small dimple in the record that I could not get a photo of, that I believe has been there since it was pressed.

The songs include:
Side 1:
  • Almost Grown
  • Carol
  • Maybellene
  • Sweet Little Rock & Roller
  • Anthony Boy
  • Johnny B. Goode
Side 2:
  • Little Queenie
  • Jo Jo Gunne
  • Roll Over Beethoven
  • Around And Around
  • Hey Pedro
  • Blues For Hawaiians
Perhaps Chuck Berry's most popular album and based on the Goldmine guide, the album cover is graded VG, and the record a strong VG+. A must for any Chuck Berry LP or Vintage Rock 'n Roll LP Collector - NO RESERVE!

GRADING GUIDELINES!

(NM or NM-) NM records are shiny with no visible defects such as writing, stickers or needle marks on the labels. The album cover should have no creases, folds, seam splits or any signs of human handling. It also will have no ring wear.

(VG+) or (Excellent) May show some slight signs of wear, including light scuffs or very light scratches that do not affect the listening experience Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK. Minor signs of handling are OK.show some slight signs of wear, including light scuffs or very light scratches that do not affect the listening experience. The cover might be marred by a cutout marking, small hole punch, a cut in the spine or a promotional stamp and even a tiny bit of ring wear.

(VG) Have more obvious flaws such as lack of gloss, groove wear, light scratches and needle marks. When played there will be surface noise that will not overpower the music overall. Noise in the passages, between songs is common. The cover may have minor seam splits, writing, tape, stickers, ring wear and scuffs.

(VG-) Is just a compounding of the VG category. Many obvious flaws but if the record is rare, may very well be worthwhile. I usually do not list records lower than the above grades.

Please remember when you are bidding, most of these records are usually 40-50+ years old and have been out of print for a very long time. When you consider that, damage, loss, and normal use or wear has reduced the market to the point that few of these wonderful treasures are even available today.
