COME ON
Back between 1955 and 1964, Chuck Berry (with help from Johnnie Johnson) was simply bursting with songs. Time and again the duo wrote classics which have not only endured the years, but were the cornerstones that a whole generation built upon. This record of "Come On" wasn't much of a hit in the US when it was released in the summer of '61, but copies that found their way to the UK would influence many, many bands. The song would show up as part of their live stage shows, and a few even recorded it. Most notable among them was the version of this song by the Rolling Stones who cut a version of the tune in June of '63 for the 'A' side of their debut single!
But this is where it all started, the original version by the guy who wrote it. This great Chess Records single is flipped with "Go-Go-Go."
