Description
Set of two 12 inch 78 rpm records: HMV JOX 37 & 38. Serial numbers of sides - 2EA 8766 - 8769. This speech was broadcast on July 14th 1940 - Churchill's rallying call as Britain awaited invasion: "there are vast numbers....who will render faithful service in this war but whose names will never be known, whose deeds will never be recorded. This is a War of the Unknown Warriors; but let all strive without failing in faith or in duty, and the dark curse of Hitler will be lifted from our age."
Condition of both discs very good to excellent. JOX 37 Part 2 has a couple of very slight surface marks, visible but not audible, and a small section with a number of tiny indentations on the outermost edge (see pic 3. The flecks that appear to be on the grooves must have been dust which I failed to blow away as they're not there now!) I have played these records recently and can confirm there are no clicks, just the surface noise one would expect from this period.
Part of a collection of Churchill speeches owned by a friend's elderly father, now deceased. He would have looked after his records. It is likely that these have not been played a great deal.
They are in brown paper sleeves which are also in very good to excellent condition.
I aim to add one or two better pictures (done 16.11)
I will package the discs very carefully within a larger box and send either by Royal Mail small packet or by courier, at an anticipated cost of £5.50 which is the amount I will charge the buyer for postage. If the actual cost turns out to be less than this I will refund the difference. I am also separately listing JOX 33 to finish on the same day and if the same buyer wins both lots postage costs can be merged.
