Background -
In a career that has spanned more than 25 years, Mari Nakamoto created the most “authentic” jazz singing of any of her Japanese contemporaries. She listened to thousands of American classics, learned the inflection and phrasing, then spent hours developing her own style from the tools she acquired. Through nearly 20 records, she has put her unique phrasing around the best of the American Songbook. MARI was her first album for “Tee” Fujii’s THREE BLIND MICE label and it is blessed with the participation of Cisco Music’s favorite TBM musician, guitarist Shoji Yokouchi. Those of you blessed with our 24K Gold CD GREENSLEEVES know what we mean. Half of the eight tracks featured here include Yokouchi, bassist Kunimitsu Inaba and drummer Hajime Ishimatsu. The other four tracks are a real treat: The trio being augmented by saxophone, trumpet and xylophone. These tracks are at turns spirited, lovely, driving and always fun-filled. Percussionist Kazuhiro Matsuishi’s xylophone solos are truly inspired. The whole, two-day session--recorded live by Yoshihiko Kannari with his usual You-Are-There acoustics. Cisco Music is once again thrilled to offer the superior sound and musicianship of Three Blind Mice limited-edition recordings in 45-rpm pressings from RTI. Mastered by Tohru Kotetsu at JVC Disc Mastering in Tokyo, MARI offers a warm, vibrant listening experience and the finest vocal albums in TBM’s rich catalog.
